I was very pleased to host the University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh in Parliament this week - and their partners Cancer Research UK and AstraZeneca - to discuss the development of the Scottish Health and Biomedical Institute (SHBI).
It was a great opportunity for parliaments to hear more about the world-leading strengths in health, biomedical research, data science, and the innovation being driven by this new partnership.
The SHBI has the potential to help tackle some of Scotland's most peristent health inequalities by driving research, innovation and clinical advances.

Thanks to Councillors Anne McCrory and Pat Patton for joining me on my street surgery in Fallside yesterday. As always, we've left with a variety of issues to take forward.
It was also positive to see the installation of new CCTV, which both Anne and Pat have been pushing for in recent months.
24 September 2026
Great to spend some time out and about with Bonnie and the team from Scottish SCPA who cover our area. The SSPCA are doing invaluable animal welfare work in the face of significant challenges.
With animal cruelty on the rise, it is clear that more must be done. The charity highlighted some really important points, which I'll be raising with the relevant authorities.
The charity is fully dependent on donations. Find more about the services they provide and how you can help here: https://www.scottishspca.org/ways-to-help/

A new Assisted Dying Bill will be debated in Parliament on 11 September.
My opposition to this proposed legislation remains unchanged - if anything it has strengthened.
1 September 2026
The SNP’s decision to indefinitely shelve the new Monklands Hospital is a betrayal of people in Lanarkshire who deserve first class health facilities.
Earlier this evening I joined local people and the Stand Up For Monklands campaign, launching a petition demanding just that.
You can watch a short video that I made about this here.
16 August 2026

We are delighted that our application for Spindlehowe Park was approved by North Lanarkshire Council’s Communities Committee today.
Frank’s support for our vision and his recognition of the wider community benefits we want to deliver has been hugely appreciated.
This is about much more than football. It’s about creating opportunities for local children, improving access to organised sport, bringing people together and building stronger community connections for generations to come.

Mon’ the Moorlands!"

3 July 2026
I attended a busy meeting in Airdrie last night on the SNP's decision to shelve the new Monklands Hospital indefinitely.
This is a decision which will have detrimental impacts on healthcare for constituents across Coatbridge and Bellshill and North Lanakrshire more widely.
By demanding cheaper plans before moving forward, it is clear that any replacement now risks being a diminshed offering.
Local people deserve the full, modern hispital we were promised close to a decade ago, not more delay and broken promises.
30 June 2026
The Labour Government's Youth Jobs Grant is now open for applications!
It offers a £3,000 hiring bonus for local businesses employing young people who have been our of work for six months of more, giving young people support and opportunity.

16 June 2026
In partnership with The Mark Sommerville Foundation, I have lodged a petition in the House of Commons this evening calling for a new National Strategy for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
This strategy, led by clinical and research experts, in partnership with patients, their families and patient organisations, would introduce a national taskforce to:
1) support MND research, with enhanced access to participation in clinical trials
2) accelerate novel drug discovery and access to innovative new treatment
3) improve diagnostic waiting times and multidisciplinary care
4) work with devolved administrations to deliver a comprehensive effort on identifying new treatments and a cure.
You can watch me speak in Parliament and present the petition here.
11 June 2026

I had an insightful visit to Maggie's Lanarkshire at Monklands Hospital alongside Katrina Murray MP for Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch.
The centre provides free support for people living with cancer and their families, including counselling, benefits advice and wellbeing activities.
Thanks to the team for the warm welcome and for the exceptional and vital work they do across Lanarkshire.
5 June 2026
Today I went on BBC Politics Scotland to talk about the Peter Murrell embezzlement scandal.
The scandal has highlighted fundamental failings in the culture, structure and systems within the SNP - and taxpayers' money (through an Electoral Commission grant) could have been included in the embezzlement.
It is clear there needs to be a full investigation to get to the truth.
30 May 2026
I would like to extend my congratulations to Mark and all at The Mark Sommerville Foundation on their excellent charity football match (and loads more activities) at Rockburn today - bringing the community together to raise funds for the Foundation and the fight against MND.

The expansion of Youth Hubs, delivered in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions and the Scottish Professional Football League Trust, will help bring jobs, training and support directly into our communities.
It is about making sure young people have the chance to earn or learn, with access to careers advice, mental health support, and real opportunities with local employers.
This is really positive news for North Lanarkshire and a real investment in the future of our young people!
25 March 2026
It was a pleasure to host the Principal of the University of Glasgow, Professor Andy Schofield, in Parliament tonight along with other leaders from the university.

Great game between Cardinal Newman High School and St Andrew's High School ⚽

18 March 2026
With 1 in 6 young people not in education, training or work, it is vital that we do more to support them.
The £2.5 billion Labour package announced by Pat McFadden, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, including a £3,000 bonus for businesses hiring young people, is exactly what is needed.
17 March 2026
I have consistently opposed both the UK and Scottish Bills - and I welcome the decision of MSPs to reject Liam McArthur's Assisted Dying Bill.
16 March 2026
Today, I welcomed new partnership between New College Lanarkshire and Cairnhill Structures.
This will be critical to growing our engineering skills based and creating the jobs of the future, including in the defence sector.
14 March 2026
It was another fantastic St Patrick's Day festival in Coatbridge.
Masssive congraturlations to Tom Nolan and all the St Patrick's Day Festival Coatbridge committee for their hard work to make the festival happen every year.

With up to £8.2 billion of investment, cutting-edge AI infrastructure and high-quality jobs for our area and across North Lanarkshire, I spoke in Parliament to highlight the importance of the Lanarkshire AI Growth Zone.
11 March 2026
Back in 2017, when I was a councillor I announced plans for Orbiston Community Hub.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the brilliant official opening with members of both school communities. The new Lawmuir Primary, Sacred Heart Primary, Orbiston Family Learning Centre and wider community space, provides an incredible state-of-the-art resource for Bellshill.

Mark Sommerville was one of the first people to contact me after being elected. In the time since, Mark and his Foundation have been tireless campaigners on funding for MND research, greater treatment and a cure.
Last night I was proud to host him in Parliament to make the case for greater research funding.
I am grateful for the Ministers from the Department for Health and Social Care and MPs who attended and listened to Mark's story and the need for more action - including a National MND Strategy, which I will continue to call for in Parliament.
6 March 2026
In Parliament this week I raised the case of a constituent still waiting for the civil service pension he's entitles to.
There have been unacceptable delays affecting former civil servants across the country and urgent action is needed.
I was pleased by the response of the leader of the House when I raised this, and will keep pressing ministers until this is resolved.
5 March 2026
Further to this afternoon’s update on the situation in the Middle East, I also raised with the Prime Minister this week the decision of Iran to adopt a mosaic deployment of its forces, which leads to greater unpredictability, risks escalation and contributes to even greater travel disruption.
It’s vital to work with European and regional partners to prevent further instability and contain the conflict.
There are still many UK citizens in the region who have not yet registered. Those affected nationals in Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Palestine, Qatar and United Arab Emirates can register their presence to receive direct updates from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
5 March 2026
Good quality apprenticeships are vital for the future of our young people and for our economy.
This apprenticeship week, I was pleased to meet with SGN to hear their commitment to supporting the jobs of the future.
25 February
The cost-of-living remains a big issue for people - and hanks to the UK Government's strong choices made in the Budget in November, which I supported, the energy price cap is coming down by £117.
I welcome thatr Ofgem have today confirmed the energy price cap is coming down by £117 (7%) from April, because of the decision to remove £150 off the costs of energy bills at the Budget.
This is on top of the expanded Warm Home Discount, which is providing a further £150 off bills for nearly 6 million families this winter.
16 February 2026
It was great to meet some of the 25-strong Graphic Warehouse team in Shawhead and hear more about the excellent investment they are making in local young people through high-quality apprenticeships.

12 February 2026
Before, during, and in the weeks after Christmas there have been significant challenges with local residents getting their mail, despite the efforts of frontline staff.
I raised these issue with the Post Office Minister.
I am pleased he is acting on this with Royal Mail at the highest levels.
12 February 2026
I raised the issue of delays in civil service pension payments in Parliament last month because of the number of constituents contacting me about their pension being delayed.
This is an unacceptable situation, and Capita must find a resolution immediately.
8 February 2026
After 18 years of the SNP disinvesting in our justice system, police officer numbers are down, prisoners are being realised early, and as of April, people in Bellshill will be unable use the station here to speak directly to local police.
Enough is enough. You can sign my petition here.
And you can watch a short video I made about this here.
6 February 2026
It has been terrific to see the ambition for this project become a reality.
I was delighted to visit the Orbiston Community Hub today to see for myself this state-of-the-art, thriving facility.

23 Janaury 2026
Today I saw first-hand the brilliant work being done to build the affordable housing which our local area needs.
With 127 high quality homes being built for social rent, it was a pleasure to join the construction team helping deliver North Lanarkshire Council’s ambitious housing plans at site of the old Columba High in Coatbridge.
By the end of the program, more than 1000 houses for social rent will have been built.
22 January 2026
This morning I raised the deeply troubling situation of pension payments for retired civil servants. My constituent, Mrs Costello, and many like her, have yet to receive their pensions due to delays at Capita, the company contracted to administer payments.
It's critical that action is taken on this matter.
22 January 2026
During the Foreign Secretary’s statement on artic security, I raised the importance of our partnership with Norway.
The £10bn Type 26 frigate contract, being delivered on the Clyde, supporting local jobs, shows our commitment to collective security and playing our part in NATO.
21 January 2026
I have had productive meeting with Postal Services Minister Blair McDougall MP, to discuss ongoing postal delivery challenges across Coatbridge and Bellshill.
Despite the efforts of frontline staff, critical mail, including mail notifying of hospital appointments, are coninuing to arrive late, including after appointment dates have passed.
These issues existed before, during and now after the Christmas rush.
I have shared a number of examples with the government and if you have experienced difficulties please email me at frank.mcnally.mp@parliament.uk
19 January 2026
I regularly hold advice surgeries across the constituency.
On Friday 23rd January I will be holding one at 1:30pm in Coatbridge.

25 December 2026
I want to wish everyone in Coatbridge, Bellshill and across our communities a very happy holiday.
Christmas is a time for family, reflection and community, but it is also a time when many people are working to keep others safe and supported. I want to pay particular tribute to our emergency services, NHS staff, carers and all those who will be working over the festive period.
I also want to recognise the incredible organisations and volunteers, including our local foodbanks and community groups, who step up at Christmas to ensure that no one is forgotten. Their compassion and generosity represent the very best of our community.
Happt Christmas and all the best for 2026! 🎄

18 December 2025
I was pleased to host an important event in Parliament with Marie Curie marking their Dying in Poverty 2025 report.

12 December 2025

For 30 years the Co-op has led the way on Fairtrade, standing up for producers, protecting workers' rights, and proving that ethical choices can shape entire industries.
I was delighted to recognise this milestone and the difference Fairtrade continues to make for families and communities around the world.
9 December 2025

🌲🧑🎄 Great Christmas festivities in Coatbridge and Bellshill this weekend!
Fantastic turnout in Coatbridge for the Christmas street party, organised by the Neighbourhood Board and funded for a second year through the UK Government's Plan for Neighbourhoods.
That was followed by the Christmas Tree light switch on in Bellshill. A massive well done to Councillors Anne McCrory and Pat Batton for pulling it all together over the last fortnight, alongside Bellshill Community Council.
Great Christmas spirit across the towns and a huge well done to all involved in organising these events!

27 November 2025
It was great to catch up with Minister for Energy McCluskey, to discuss the extension of the Warm Homes Discount.
Yesterday's Budget confirmed that energy bills will be cut by £150 every year for all households. The Warm Homes Discount expansion will also provide a further £150 for those households in the most need.

26 November 2026
The government are increasing the National Living Wage to £12.71 an hour from April, giving full-time workers £900 more a year.
This boost will help over 2 million people with the cost of living across the country, and many across Coatbridge and Bellshill.
26 November 2025
I was in the Commons today to hear the Chancellor deliver her Budget.
In particular, I strongly welcome the strong action taken on these four areas:
✅Child poverty tackled
✅Wages on the rise - with minimum wage increased

✅Austerity rejected
You can watch a short video I made reacting to the Budget here.
21 November 2025
I was pleased to host the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI), and a number of the 80 businesses they support, in Parliament this week.
The industry supports 115,000 jobs, including hundreds across Coatbridge and Bellshill - and contributes £15 billion to the economy.
It provided a very useful opportunity for MPs to hear of the challenges, successes and opportunities within the sector.
17 November 2025

Glasgow City Council is considering introducing a new charge on drivers heading into the city.
What that means is that drivers in Coatbridge, Bellshill, surrounding villages and across North Lanarkshire could be charged every time they head into town - whether it's for work, going on a night out, visiting familt or friends, heading to the football or attending a concert.
It's absurd to consider a tax on Lanarkshire drivers just for entering the boundaries of Glasgow - and the SNP-controlled City Council should bin these plans now!
If you agree, sign the peitition here: https://survey.labour.org.uk/stopcartaxcoatbridge
And you can watch a short video I made about this here.

Last year's historic decision to return the entire investment reserve of the Mineworkers' Pension Scheme (MPS) to its members ended a long-overdue injustice and provided 132 ex-miners in Coatbridge and Bellshill a £29 per week uplift in their pension. However, no such commitment has been made for the BCSSS, despite its members facing similar circumstances and having an equally strong case.
This is something that the government must urgently look to address.

The UK supports the absolute right of Palestinians to safely return to their homes. By blocking essential humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, the Israeli Government is making that impossible. This is a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law.

Shockingly, shortages are so extreme that some people are forced to source their PERTs from social media, a situation that is completely unacceptable for those experiencing such a serious illness.
I also had the opportunity to meet Bryony Thomas. Bryony has pancreatic cancer and is a strong voice in campaigning to make sure fellow sufferers can access the treatment they need and deserve. I am pleased to support the campaign for urgent action.

Scotland is experiencing a housing emergency and Scottish Labour is committed to ensuring that the right mixture of housing becomes available to allow people live in the type of house that is suitable for them, in the community that they want to live in.
Locally, Labout-led North Lanarkshire Council has the most ambitious council house building programme in Scotland. We need to see the same level ambition within the Scottish Government.
With that priority in mind, I visited the Taylor Wimpey site in Carnbroe this week. It provided me wuth a useful insight into the challenged facing the construction sector in Scotland, the significant skills gap facing the industry, the push for green energy solutions and efforts to break down the barriers that stand in the way to delivering the variety of housing supply needed.
20 February 2025
Thank you to the Coatbridge business owners who took the time to meet with me today to discuss their priorities for their businesses and for the town centre.
20 February 2025
Earlier today, I conducted a small business surgery in Coatbridge Main Street. I enjoyed meeting with business owners, gaining their perspectives and getting an understanding of their priorities.
Small businesses are critical for our local economies and I will be undertaking more of these surgeries across the constituency in the coming months.
19 February 2025
With Parliament in recess this week, I took the opportunity to join Mark Griffin MSP, Councillor Beth Baudo and Councillor Helena Gray for a street surgery in Mossend.
I'm grateful to local residents for taking the time to raise their priorities with our team.
19 February 2025
This morning I met with Ecomac Innovation, a Coatbridge-based renewable energy company to hear about their plans.
Creating sustainable energy sector jobs is vital to securing a just transition and lowering energy costs.
18 February 2025
It was great to meet with Scott Dickson today to hear more about the innovative plans to transform his site in Mossend into Scotland's largest, indoor, Padel Tennis facility.
As the world's fastest growing sport, this is a really exciting proposal and I look forward to seeing the plans progressing.
18 February 2025
It was a pleasure to speak this afternoon 's Coatbridge Citizens Advice Scotland AGM.
The staff, volunteers and tristees provide crucial support and advice for people across Coatbridge and the surrounding villages. For every £1 they receive in core funding, clients benefit by £44, with around £2.7m being secured for local people last year.
A big thank you also to Sit Tom Clarke who is stepping down as Chair after 6 years in post.
22 September 2026
Cumbernauld Theatre is used by artists, performers and audiences from across Coatbridge and Bellshill, Lanarkshire and the entire country.
Its new facility, which openeded in 2022, features a 300-seat auditorium, studio theatre, dance studio, and an 83-seat cinema. It is part of a £37 million campus that was joint funded by North Lanarkshire Council and the Scottish Government. It is absolutely shocking that this state-of-the-art facility is now at risk due to the rejection of a £2 million funding bid by Creative Scotland.
I fully support Katrina's efforts on this the important petition by the Theatre Trust - which you can sign here.
11 February 2025
Following illness or injury, workers across Britain are left having to live on £3 an hour because of the UK's low rate of statutory sick pay. One in three of the UK's workfirce fon't get any form of sick pay protection from their employer beyond the legal minimum. No-one should be punished for getting ill, we need a sick pay system that is good for growth, good for public health and good for working families.
That's why I support The Centre for Progressive Change in their calls to:
Strengthen Statutory Sick Pay by increasing the basic rate it is paid at
Remove the lower earning limit for Statutory Sick Pay to make it available to all workers
Remove the waiting period for Statutory Sick Pay so that it is paid from the first day of sickness
10 February 2025
As part of Children's mental health week, I met with 'Hidden Strength.'
From bullying, body image and anxiety to self-harm, family and relationships, 'Hidden Strength' aims to support children with life's challenges.
Their dedicated app delivers free threapy, whilst their 'Help Zone' is packed with mental health and wellbeing advice and resources.
5 February 2025
With #worldcancerday taking place yesterday, I used the occasion to show my support for Radiotherapy UK's #catchupwithcancer campaign, alongside Manchester United legend Bryan Robson - a cancer survivor himself.
Cancer will impact us all in some way at some point in our lives and critical challenges remain across Scotland on waiting times, and the ability to access screening and treatment quickly to help tackle this disease.
4 February 2025
The route from education into genuinely positive pathways, such as apprenticeships, is vital for young people. We need a skills revolution in Scotland to deliver the well-paid jobs of the future.
It is not acceptable that there has been a 28% drop in apprenticeships in the last ten years in Scotland - and that there is a further proposed cut in the Scottish Budget. It's critical that rather than cutting apprenticeships, we adopt a laser focus in supporting young people and the economy with good quality apprenticeships.
4 February 2025
The autumn budget provided record funding for the Scottish Government. Despite this, the SNP is cutting a staggering £200 million from the retrofitting programme.
To provide warmer homes that are cheaper to run, the SNP must reverse this unnecessary cut.
3 February 2025
I am holding an Advice Surgery on Friday 7th February in Bellshill.
To book an appointment, please email me at:

31 January 2025
It was pleasure to meet the Asda Foundation team in Parliament earlier this week, particuarly as they have awarded £16,941 to local primary schools across Coatbridge and Bellshill.

25 January 2025
Wishing all my constituents and fellow countrymen Happy Burns Night!
21 January 2025
Improving living standards and ensuring opportunities for people in Coatbridge and Bellshill is at the heart of my work in Parliament.
This afternoon I asked the Chancellor what more she was doing to improve living standards for working people.
20 January 2025
This afternoon in Parliament I highlighted that safety experts have raised concerns about at least 95 high-rise blocks and nearly 300 other buildings, including schools, hospitals and care homes in Scotland. It's not acceptable that nearly 8 years on from the devastating tragedy of Grenfell, the Scottish Government have spent less than 10% of the over £97m received from the UK Government for the cladding remediation programme.
Lives could be at risk, so it is absolutely vital that the Scottish Government now acts at pace to make these buildings safe and provide peace of mind to the thousands of Scots still living or working in buildings with unsafe, flammable cladding.
17 January 2025
Employing 350 local people, Alliance Healthcare is a significant employer in our area. From their Coatbridge distribution centre, Alliance delivers 1.1 million items to over 1,400 hospitals, health centres and community pharmacies across Scotland each day.
This morning I visited the site and met with Marie Evans, Managing Director of Alliance Healthcare UK, Scott Balfour, Service Centre General Manager and Usdaw Scotland Regional Secretary, Tony Doonan.

After more than 18 months of violent conflict, Sudan is facing the worst humanitarian crisis for a decade and over 11 million people have been displaced.
Today I asked the minister that pressure be kept on Sudan to ensure that vital aid reaches the people who need it.
14 January 2025
Today I had a productive meeting with Secretary of State for Scotland Ian Murray MP in the Scotland Office last night.
I used our discussion to raise important issues on investment and making work pay for people in Coatbridge and Bellshill.
10 January 2025
Thank you to the team at Bellshill Specsavers for taking the time to speak with me about their optometry and audiology services today - as well as the wider role they are playing within our community.
It was also great to see the terrific investment they have made in their Main Street branch.
8 January 2025
I was delighted to host over 50 MPs and peers at last night's parliamentary reception for Nationwide. It was encouraging to hear Nationwide is committed to maintaining its branch network, including in Coatbridge, as in-person banking facilities are an important part of a thriving high street.
It was also great to hear about their Farier Futures programme, which provides financial support through pre-tax profits for the charities Centrepoint, Action for Scotland and Dementia UK.
Thanks also to the Secretary of State for Scotland, Ian Murray, for speaking at the event.
24 December 2024
Wishing you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2025.
May you find joy, love and peace at this special time of year 🎄
16 December 2024
Local people have justifiably been long expressing their concerns about the safety on the Shawhead Flyover, given the scale of the incidents taking place there. As I highlighted recently, there have been 289 incidents on the flyover since 2020.
I've met with Transport Scotland and sought to engage the Scottish Government Ministers on this issue - and have made it clear that serious consideration must be given to additional measures.
Safety at the flyover is a critical issue, and one I'll continue to work on.
16 December 2024
Well done to Coatbridge Town Board for organising a factastic Christmas Party in the town centre and at Summerlee on Saturday, supported by the UK Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
An excellent event and a great opportunity to hear from local people about their priorities for the £20 million secured for Coatbridge through the UK Town Fund. 🎄🧑🎄
13 December 2024
Thank you to the team at Summerlee, Museum of Scottish Industrial Life for an engaging tour this morning. I was impressed by the ambition of the museum staff as they begin the process of transforming the museum over the coming years.
Thank you also to the wonderful volunteers in the museum's tram restoration project, who are restoring an original Glasgow Corporation tram to its former glory, a real labour of love.
13 December 2024
Thanks to the team at the Coatbridge Delivery Office for having me join them earlier this morning.
Postal workers are vital in our community, particuarly in the run up to Christmas, and I was happy to get the opportunity to thanks them all their efforts at this busy time of year.
11 December 2024
Following being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in October 2023, my constituent, Mark Sommerville, set up a foundation in his name to raise awareness of the condition and help fellow sufferers.
Today in Parliament, the Prime Minister joined me in commending Mark's bravery and compassion as I asked that the UK Government commit to doing everything it can to support efforts to find a treatment and cure for MND.
10 December 2024
Colleges are vital to rebuilding Britian. The Association of Colleges have produced an excellent and detailed report on putting colleges at the heart of learning.
The college sector in Scotland has endured cuts to funding for far too long.
This must be addressed during the current budget to support colleges in providing the skills we need in Scotland.
6 December 2024
It was a pleasure to catch up with The Mark Sommerville Foundation to record a podcast discussing Motor Neurone DIsease at the G4 Podcast Studio this afternoon. Mark and the foudnation are doing inspiring work and I am looking forward to hosting them all in Parliament next week to help raise awareness on MND.
Funding research into a cure for this devastating condition is vital and I'm pleased we have the opportunity to bring that message to MPs on Wednesday.
4 December 2024
For Scotland to reach its potential it is vital that we have thiriving retail, leisure and hospitality sectors. Businesses working in these sectors should receive the same rates relief the Labour Government has provided businesses south of border.
Today the Scotrish Government delivers its draft budget, and earlier this morning I raised with the Secretary of State for Scotland Ian Murray how crucial it is that the SNP use the extra money they received from the UK autumn budget to support the Scottish RHL sector.
3 December 2024
I am delighted 132 former mineworkers in Coatbridge and Bellshill will be receiving a significant uplift in their pensions.
It is a national scandal that former miners in our area have had to fight so long for the pension settlement they deserve.
This marks a victory for the relentless campaigning of the trustees, members and coalfield communities, and will make an immediate difference to people in Coatbridge and Bellshill.
30 November 2024
Wishing all my constituents and fellow Scots a Happy St. Andrew's Day!
29 November 2024
This is a victory for the many former mineworkers in Coatbridge and Bellshill. For far too long miners across the country did not get the pension they deserved.
Today the new UK Labour government put that right.
I am delighted that nearly 8,000 former miners in Scotland will receive their first payment today.
28 November 2024
It was an interesting and informative breakfast meeting with The Net Zero Technology Centre, hosted by my colleague Kenneth Stevenson MP.
I was particuarly interested to hear about their role in working with GB energy to position the UK as a world leader in clean energy and in creating high quality jobs in the clean energy sector.
27 November 2024
The SNP have consistently presided over a catalogue of serious failures when it comes to safely disposing Scotland's clinical waste. Today I raised the issue with the Prime Minister.
26 November 2024
Today I hosted an MP drop-in with clinicians opposed to the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill along with Care Not Killing in Westminster, to allow them to share their concerns with legislators.
Their petition against the Bill has been signed by 3,400 medical professionals and I am grateful to them for sharing their perspective.
25 November 2024
It was a pleasure to join members of the Woodhall, Faskine and Palacecraig Conservation Group, along with my colleague Kenneth Stevenson MP for a walk around the area.
It was inspiring to spend time with a group so dedicated to local conservation.
22 November 2024
Bellshill Athletic FC, Bellshill Athletic Boys & Girls Academy were recently awarded the Gold quality mark by the SFA. The award is something that everyone involved is extremely proud of.
This is a fantastic achievement made possible by the hard work and dedication of the club's voluntary coaches, ground staff, committee, players and helpers.
Today I visited the club to congratulate them on their achievement and to hear more about their work in our community.
22 November 2024
This morning I enjoyed meeting the senior modern studies pupils at Coatbridge High School. The excellent questions covered the important issues at home and abroad and demonstrated that the students had given these topics careful consideration.
Their school and their families should be very proud.
21 November 2024
I am holding an Advice Surgery at 11:15am tomorrow in Bellshill.
To book an appointment, please email me at:

I am saddened to hear of John Prescott's death.
John was a man of principle, of conviction and dedication.
He committed his life to the cause of working people and to public service.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.
He will be deeply missed.
19 November 2024
Palestinians today are living in what has been described by the UNRWA Commissioner General as an 'unrelenting dystopian horror'.
Today I spoke in my Scottish Labour Party colleague, Patricia Ferguson's Westminster Hall debate on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza to highlight the scale of the devastation being wrought upon the Palestinian people.
19 November 2024
It was an impressive turn out for this morning's All Party Parliamentary Group on Hospice and End of Life Care. On the agenda were crucial issues like the funding model for hospices and the significant stresses on palliative care services across the UK.
Tackling these long standing challenges must be a priority for both the UK and Scottish Governments.
15 November 2024
I had a productive visits to Bellshill Community Fire Station this afternoon, were I was able to meet crew and discuss some of the hotspots for the Fire and Rescue Service in the local area, the funding challenges faced by the Service, and the enforcement and community activities being carried out to improve public safety.
Thank you to Station Commander Kenneth Stark, Watch Commander Barry Peat, and all the crew at the station for taking the time to host.
14 November 2024
Since being elected in July, I have received a significant number of communications from constituents regarding the Shawhead flyover.
I had meetings with both Police Scotland and Transport Scotland who updated me on their most recent incident statistics and outlined the works that have been completed on the junctions at Shawhead.
These meetings were positive. However, constituents who drive the road recognise that more substantial improvements must still be considered, including the installation of traffic cameras, but this can only happen if Transport Scotland changes its reporting to fully take account of the dozens of incidents that occur each year.
I wrote to Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, inviting her to meet with me to discuss how critical incident data is recorded, to improve safety at the Shawhead flyover and address local concerns.
I had hoped to work in partnership with the Scottish Government and its agencies to help identify solutions that would relieve anxieties amongst drivers and pedestrians who use the flyover.
It is extremely disappointing that this invitation has been declined. I urge the Cabinet Secretary to reconsider her position on this issue.
14 November 2024
This week marks USDAW Union's National Respect for Shopworkers Week.
Too many people who work in retail experience both physical and verbal abuse.
No one should have to work in fear.
I will work along with USDAW to keep retail workers safe!
11 November 2024
It was great to catch up with Michael Ross, Chief Executive of Hub South West at Dover House tonight.
Michael and his team are working with North Lanarkshire Council, NHS Lanarkshire and other key local partners to deliver high quality new assets across our communities.
11 November 2024
Today we remember all who gave their life for ours.
Lest we forget.
10 November 2024
A poignant Service of Rememberance in Coatbridge today to commemorate those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.
9 November 2024
Bringing justice to miners was an important part of our pre-election promises and meant a lot to many people in my community.
It was extremely satisfying to right the wrong when Rachel Reeves announced in her Budget that the £1.5 billion mineworkers' pension fund would be handed over in its entirety to ex-miners and their families.
8 November 2024
Representing over 140 local jobs, Smurfit site in Tannochside is a significant local employer.
This morning I visited the site with Councillor Helen Loughran to speak to management, workers and trade union representatives about the work of the plant, the investments being made their and the vital role they play in our community.

The Tories drove our country down a dirst path of decline until they ran out of road. This week's budget set about fixing Britain's economic foundations and improving the lives of working people. You can see me speak in the Chamber here.

Today's first Labour budget represents a big victory for retired miners. We are delivering on our promise to transfer the Investment Reserve Fund of the Mineworkers Pensions Scheme to its members.
We are taking care of those who have worked all their lives to power our country and our prosperity.
30 October 2024
Today's Labour budget will fix the foundations and deliver the change we desperately need.

I have voted in favour of the Government's Employment Rights Bill.
The Bill seeks to improve workers' rights through measures such as making work more secure, delivering a genuine living wage, banning exploitative zero hours contracts and ending fire and rehire.
24 October 2024
The Scottish and UK Labour Parties are committed to delivering national care services fit for the challenges of the 21st century. Earlier today, I raised the shambolic approach of the SNP to creating a national care service.
Now it appears even Greens are pulling their support. The SNP need to invest in frontline care - and work in partnership with unions, local government and care providers to deliver a service fit for purpose.
22 October 2024

It was pleasing to be able to discuss the issues which people in Coatbridge and Bellshill have been raising with me in recent weeks.
16 October 2024
I am pleased to have voted for the Hereditary Peers Bill last night.
You should not be awarded a seat in parliament through birthright - and this bill will remove that right for hereditary peers.
It is long overdue and, thankfully, just the first step in wider reforms to the House of Lords that the Labout Government will deliver.
15 October 2024
During this morning's Westminster Hall Debate on Scotland's economy, I was pleased to have the opportunity to raise some important local issues.
It is important that local people and businesses receive the support they need to thrive.
15 October 2024
Scotland's Further Education sector has been decimated in recent years, particuarly our colleges. Colleges are vital to providing the skills people need to progress in their education and careers.
I used this morning's Westminster Hall Debate to highlight the need for the Scottish Government to ensure the sector gets the support it needs and deserves.
11 October 2024
This week is Hospice Care week and to recognise the vital role that hospices play, I visited the St Andrew's Hospice Outlet in Coatbridge this morning. The Outlet is fantastic and all proceeds go towards funding the incredible work of the hospice.

15 September 2024
It was a great honour to attend, make a dedication and lay a wreath this afternoon to mark the 65th anniversary of the Auchengeich mining disaster.
Scotland's worst mining disaster of the 20th century claimed the lives of 47 men, widowed 41 women and left 76 children without a father.
There was a tremendous turnout again from Moodiesburn, across Lanarkshire and beyond to remember those lost, to stand in tribute to the resilience, courage and spirit of the communities impacted, and to rededicate ourselves to never forget the sacrifices made by miners and their families.
14 September 2024

It was a pleasure to see what's on offer at Coatbridge's own local gem 'Heart Style' during Scotland Loves Local Week.
Monica Lennon MSP and I enjoyed some retail therapy - taking advantage of affordable prices while supporting local businesses at the same time.
Local shops like Jillian's are the heartbeat of our community, offering unique products and a personal touch. I encourage everyone to shop local, pop by Heart Style and see what makes it so special.
15 August 2024
Lovely visit to The Hub Coatbridge yesterday along with Councillor Geraldine Woods.

I look forward to working with them.
14 August 2024
Today I met with leaders of the Lanarkshire Central Mosque in New Stevenson to show our support and solidarity after the appalling far-right riots last wee.
We are proud of the diversity in our local communities and will always come together in times of challenge.
It is important we stand united in the face of division and racism.

Pleasure to be in Tannochside to meet with Mark and the great team supporting him in The Mark Sommerville Foundation.
The Foundation is working hard to raise awareness of MND and the need for positive support and funding for research to beat this terrible disease.
The group put forward a very compelling case, and as their MP, I will do everything I can to assist.
26 July 2024
In my Maiden Speech this week, I talked about my commitment to my constituents and the support I will give to local businesses.
After a long week, it was good to be out putting that commitment into action. I visited a number of businesses in Bellshill and Coatbridge, including stopping into the Nationwide in Coatbridge.
As a vital part of the community, Nationwide has committed to no branch closures before 2028. Good news for its members and savers.
Meeting with Branch Manager, Anne-Marie, their commitment to the Coatbridge communities was clear, with - among other initiatives - a collecction point for Coatbridge Community Food Bank.
I will begin my advice surgeries next week, with more details to follow soon.
It was an honour for me to make my Maiden Speech in the House of Commons.
It was incredibly important for me to pay tribute to those who have gone before me, including my political opponents. More often than not, what unites us is greater than that which divides us.
After paying tribute to my predecessors, Hugh Gaffney, Sir Tom Clarke and Jimmy Dempsey, I also remembered those lost in the Auchingeich Colliery disaster.
No history of our area can leave out the history of Bellshill Maternity, and those who were born there.
But equally, our communities are proud to have opened their arms to immigrants not born here, particularly from Ireland, Lithuania and Ukraine. I am proud of the impact these cultures have made on our area.
I also paid tribute to my Mum and Dad, Danny and Edwina, and my wife Steph. Without their strength and support I simply would not be in this privileged position.
I ended my speech by reflecting on my first days in this role, visiting the remarkable volunteers at Coatbridge Community Food Bank.
My mission as your MP, every day, will be to tackle poverty wherever it is found. That is my fundamental purpose.
I will work day in and day out as part of this Labour Government to develop a comprehensive, holistic, strategy on tackling poverty, looking at all aspects of welfare to make life fairer and better for those who need it most in Coatbridge and Bellshill.
12 July 2024
After a busy week in London, I have been out and about in Coatbridge talking to businesses and local people. This morning I visited a local food bank which reminded me both of the failures of the last Tory Government, but also of the community spirit of people willing to give their time to help others.
It will be my mission to represent the people of Coatbridge and Bellshill, and to dedicate my efforts to tackling the scourge of poverty in our communities.
10 July 2024
After the necessary formalities of being sworn in today, it's now time to get on with doing the job I was elected to do: represent and fight for the people of Coatbridge and Bellshill.
It's time to get to work.
8 July 2024
Today was my first day in London getting my Westminster office set up.
In the meantime, if you live in Coatbridge and Bellshill and need help with anything drop me a line: frank.mcnally.mp@parliament.uk.
7 July 2024
Tomorrow I head to London for the first time as the proud MP for Coatbridge and Bellshill.
Whether you voted for me or not, I work for you and the job starts now.
I'll be working hard over the coming days to get things in place, including a parliamentary email address, as office and surgery information.
Please bear with me.
My councillor duties will continue for the time being, so please do not hesitate to get in touch.
